Manakau School

From Deb's Desk Term 2 Week 7

Posted on 30 June 2016

Our shared purpose is to enhance digital education to enable our students to become successful, lifelong, connected, collaborative and creative learners.

The next stage to implement chrome books into our school was well supported at the parent gathering last night.  Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend, and those who gave in their apologies.  The paperwork is just about ready, and the sign up process will be in full swing next week.

An interesting component of last night’s conversation was prompted by a parent’s question…it went sort of like this…”When we looked at schools for our children we were impressed by the way Manakau kids were involved in the outdoors.  They were playing on the field, climbing trees, there is art in the classrooms, and children learn an instrument. Is this going to change because we are focusing on computers? WHAT A GREAT QUESTION!  And the answer is really easy – NO!

As part of our 2016 Charter Goals - Strategic Goal 2 is to manage growth in the school roll while retaining the special character of Manakau School.

To retain and promote the special character is one of the exciting parts of my role as Principal. Striking the balance of ensuring our children have access to technology that supports their learning and in many cases removes barriers, while continuing to build and celebrate our unique country school is always going to be a challenge. One that I’m sure we are all able to work towards. Together Each Achieves More (TEAM)
